New EV Charging Regulations in UAE: What’s Next?

With the introduction of thorough EV charging regulations in UAE, the UAE is speeding up its transition to electric mobility. Cabinet Resolution No. (81) of 2024 establishes a unified fee structure for public EV charging services, mandating a minimum charge of 1.2 AED + VAT per kWh for express charging and 0.7 AED + VAT per kWh for slow charging.

Expansion of EV Charging Infrastructure in UAE

To meet the growing demand, the UAE is significantly expanding its EV charging infrastructure. As of 2023, there are approximately 2,000 public EV charging stations across the country, with the majority located in Dubai. The government aims to increase this number to 1,000 by 2025, enhancing accessibility for EV users.

Standardization of Charging Fees

The new EV Charging Regulations in UAE standardize charging fees across the country, ensuring transparency and consistency for consumers. This move is expected to foster confidence among EV owners and encourage the adoption of electric vehicles nationwide.

The introduction of these regulations marks a significant step toward a sustainable future in the UAE. As the infrastructure expands and regulations mature, the country is poised to become a leader in electric mobility in the region.
