Dubai Announces 208 New Ultra-Fast EV Chargers for Taxi Fleet

Dubai is accelerating its journey toward cleaner mobility with a major new initiative between the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) and Dubai Taxi Company (DTC). Under a long-term agreement highlighted recently at WETEX, both entities will collaborate to install 208 Ultra-Fast EV Chargers across the emirate, marking one of the most significant EV-charging expansions in the region.

The rollout will begin with two dedicated high-capacity charging hubs – one at the DTC depot near Dubai International Airport and another at the company’s headquarters in Muhaisnah 4. These hubs will serve as central charging zones for taxi fleets, reducing downtime and enabling vehicles to return to service more quickly. Each site will feature next-generation chargers with capacities reaching up to 360 kW, allowing rapid replenishment tailored for high-utilization fleets.

Beyond fleet operations, the planned charger network will also accommodate public EV drivers, further expanding Dubai’s fast-growing charging landscape. With seamless payment options through the DEWA app, RFID, and contactless terminals, both individual drivers and fleet operators will benefit from flexible and secure payment integration.

As Dubai shifts toward its long-term sustainability goals – including the full electrification of DTC’s taxi and limousine fleet by 2040 – large-scale charging infrastructure becomes essential. Ultra-fast charging capability is central to this transformation, as taxis can complete significantly more daily trips with less charging time. This initiative complements the city’s broader Green Mobility Strategy and its ongoing expansion of the EV Green Charger network.

Environmental impact remains a core benefit. According to early projections, the introduction of these Ultra-Fast EV Chargers could reduce tens of thousands of tonnes of carbon emissions annually once fully deployed. As the taxi fleet transitions to electric models, Dubai gains both immediate and long-term sustainability advantages, strengthening its position as a leader in urban clean-transport innovation.
