Abu Dhabi Launches Barq Ultra-Fast EV Charging Network

The Abu Dhabi EV Charging Network is set for a major expansion following the launch of the new Barq initiative by the Abu Dhabi Department of Energy (DoE) in partnership with TAQA Distribution. The project reflects the emirate’s growing focus on sustainable mobility and advanced electric vehicle infrastructure across the UAE.

As part of the first phase, more than 50 ultra-fast EV chargers will be installed across strategic locations in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain. Key charging points include Manarat Al Saadiyat, Mina Market, Burjeel Hospital in Mohammed Bin Zayed City, UAE University, Tawam Hospital, Al Jimi Mall, and City Mall in Madinat Zayed.

The Abu Dhabi EV Charging Network will feature powerful 360 kW chargers capable of delivering nearly 100 kilometres of driving range in around three minutes. The initiative is designed to reduce charging time significantly while improving convenience for EV users across the emirate. Authorities also confirmed that every fourth charging session under the initiative will be available free of cost.

The first charging stations became operational during Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week, where visitors were able to access complimentary charging services throughout the event. Users can also access the Barq.EV mobile application for real-time charger availability, station locations, and network monitoring services.

The project supports long-term national sustainability goals, including the UAE National Electric Vehicles Policy and the National Air Quality Agenda 2031, both focused on accelerating electric mobility adoption and reducing emissions across the country.

As the Abu Dhabi EV Charging Network continues to grow, the demand for reliable and scalable EV charging infrastructure is also increasing.

CITA EV Charger continues to support the region’s evolving EV ecosystem with advanced AC and DC EV charging solutions built for homes, commercial spaces, fleets, and public charging applications across the UAE.
