DEWA Strengthens Dubai’s EV Future with Major Green Charger Expansion

Dubai’s transition toward clean mobility is gaining fresh momentum as the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) continues its wide-scale Green Charger Expansion across the emirate. The initiative reflects the city’s long-term push to build a reliable electric mobility ecosystem backed by infrastructure, regulation, and public-private collaboration.

Electric vehicle adoption in Dubai has accelerated steadily, supported by consistent investments in charging accessibility. Since launching the Green Charger programme in 2014, DEWA has delivered more than 55,000 megawatt hours of electricity through its network, enabling over 276 million kilometres of electric travel. The sustained Green Charger Expansion is widely seen as a key factor behind rising consumer confidence in EV ownership.

EV Adoption and Infrastructure Growth Move in Parallel

Dubai’s EV market has expanded rapidly in recent years. By the end of 2025, the emirate recorded nearly 48,000 registered electric vehicles, marking a sharp increase from the previous year. The growth in users has been equally striking, with registered participants in the Green Charger initiative rising to over 23,600 by early 2026.

To support this surge, the charging network has expanded to more than 1,860 charging points across Dubai, covering ultra-fast, fast, and destination charging segments. Much of this progress has been enabled by a forward-looking regulatory framework introduced in 2024, allowing both government entities and licensed private operators to deploy infrastructure.

Strategic partnerships have also played a crucial role. Agreements with organisations such as Dubai Taxi Company, Parkin, and ENOC are helping accelerate deployment of ultra-fast charging hubs across high-demand locations.

As the UAE advances toward its Net Zero 2050 and Dubai Green Mobility 2030 goals, continued Green Charger Expansion will remain central to reducing transport emissions and enabling wider EV adoption.

For industry stakeholders, the momentum signals strong long-term opportunities. Global EV infrastructure providers like CITA EV Charger are increasingly supporting the region’s electrification journey through advanced charging technologies and certified deployment expertise.
