The EV Charging Infrastructure in the UAE is set for significant expansion as the country accelerates efforts to support electric mobility and reduce carbon emissions. According to officials from the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure (MoEI), the UAE aims to install more than 500 electric vehicle (EV) charging stations nationwide by the end of 2025, strengthening the country’s transition toward cleaner transportation.
Â
The announcement was made by Sharif Al Olama, Under-Secretary for Energy and Petroleum Affairs at MoEI, during the World Governments Summit held in Dubai from February 11 to 13, 2025. Speaking on the sidelines of the event, Al Olama highlighted the government’s commitment to building a robust EV ecosystem that supports the rapid growth of electric vehicles across the country.
Â
As part of this initiative, the ministry has already made substantial progress. In 2024 alone, more than 100 EV charging stations were installed across the UAE, providing greater accessibility for EV drivers. Authorities are now working to expand this network quickly to meet the increasing demand for electric mobility.
Â
A key component of this development is UAEV, a joint venture between the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure and Etihad Water and Electricity. The ministry holds a 50 per cent stake in the venture, which focuses on deploying fast, accessible charging stations across different regions of the country.
Â
Government officials emphasise that the expansion of EV charging infrastructure involves strong collaboration between the public and private sectors, as well as coordination with local authorities. This integrated approach is designed to ensure the availability of reliable charging facilities that encourage more residents and businesses to transition to electric vehicles.
Â
The EV infrastructure rollout also aligns with the UAE’s broader sustainability ambitions. As part of its long-term energy strategy, the country aims to increase its renewable energy capacity to more than 14 gigawatts by 2030, further supporting the shift toward low-carbon transportation and clean energy solutions.
