Dubai’s EV Charging Boom Passes 1,270 Points: What’s Next in 2025?

Dubai’s electric vehicle outlook just got sharper. HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of Dubai Electricity & Water Authority (DEWA), confirmed that the emirate now operates a network of more than 1,270 EV charging points across the city. This is a leap from just 740 in March 2025, marking a 72% boost in less than six months.

Building Momentum in Green Mobility

Launched in 2014, DEWA’s EV Green Charger initiative has long been central to the emirate’s strategy for EV charging, pioneering the region’s first public charging grid. Now, with over 40,600 electric vehicles on Dubai’s roads by mid-2025, DEWA is doubling down, scaling infrastructure to match demand and push closer to its vision of having half of all UAE vehicles electric or hybrid by 2050.

Dubai’s strategy blends smart regulation with private partnerships. The emirate introduced a dual-track licensing framework to allow both DEWA-driven and independent operators to grow the EV charging network under regulation. A notable move: DEWA partnered with Parkin to add chargers in high-traffic zones, improving both reach and convenience.

Drivers enjoy easy access too. Whether registered or not, they can use guest mode on DEWA’s stations, which are discoverable via its app, website, and 14 other digital platforms. DEWA also launched the “Dubai EV Community Hub” as a one-stop portal for all things EV.

Dubai’s rapid EV charging expansion shows smart planning meets real demand. More electric drivers, better coverage, easier access. Still, as usage grows, so does the pressure to install ultra-fast chargers and sophisticated management systems.
