Qatar Regulations on Electric Vehicle Charging stations in 2025 mark a decisive step in the country’s shift toward clean mobilityThe new framework, fully aligned with the Qatar National Vision 2030, emphasizes infrastructure expansion, strict technical compliance, and smart charging management.
It comes at a critical time when the UN has identified clean transportation as a core pillar in meeting global climate goals, with Gulf states like the UAE already deploying similar frameworks through DEWA and ADQCC-certified networks.
Infrastructure, Safety, and Smart Management
The nationwide rollout, guided by Qatar Regulations on Electric Vehicle Charging stations, is being led by Kahramaa (Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation) in collaboration with the Ministry of Transport under the “Tarsheed” Smart Charging initiative. By the close of 2025, Qatar aims to have 600 public charging stations, with a long-term goal of doubling that number by 2030.
To ensure safety and reliability, only certified AC and DC fast chargers are approved for installation. Technical requirements specify IP65/IK10 ratings for AC and IP54/IK10 for DC units, critical for protecting hardware in Qatar’s demanding climate. Installations can only be carried out by licensed contractors and are subject to inspection before activation.
The regulatory framework also focuses heavily on the user experience. The upgraded Tarsheed app allows EV drivers to find charging points, check availability, initiate charging, and monitor consumption in real time. On the back end, a central management portal enables service providers to handle monitoring, notifications, and access control. Charging stations are being deployed across government offices, commercial hubs, hotels, Woqod fuel stations, and private parking facilities.
