In a major boost to sustainable transportation in Dubai, DEWA’s Green Chargers have delivered over 39,159 megawatt-hours (MWh) of electricity for electric vehicle (EV) charging across the city since 2015. This announcement comes from HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), highlighting a decade-long push toward green mobility initiatives in the UAE.
Q1 2025 Sees Surge in EV Charging Use
At the end of Q1 2025, electric vehicle charging in Dubai surged by 23.6% compared to the same period in 2024. This increase reflects both greater public interest in EVs and a robust, accessible charging infrastructure powered by DEWA and licensed charge point operators.
According to Al Tayer, “We support the transition towards green mobility and net zero by reducing the carbon footprint in the transport sector and enhancing the competitiveness of the UAE and Dubai in the electric vehicle sector.”
DEWA’s Green Chargers are available 24/7 at strategic locations across Dubai, including malls, offices, fuel stations, and residential communities. EV owners can find charging stations on DEWA’s website, smart app, and 14 other digital platforms.
Customers registered with the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai are automatically issued an EV Green Charger account by DEWA. This enables them to charge their vehicles in less than an hour. For others, DEWA offers a “guest mode” for quick access without full registration.
To support various charging needs, DEWA offers four types of chargers:
Ultra-Fast Chargers, Fast Chargers, Public Chargers, and Wall-Box Chargers.
